Learn More about the North Atlantic Right Whale
Did
you know that right whales give birth to their calves in the coastal
waters of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida from November through
April? Every right whale is a treasure –
with only about 300 right whales remaining, they are one of the most
endangered whales in the world. So let’s take pleasure in protecting
America’s rare treasures, and do what we can to save them
from extinction:
In
the calving area, speeds of 10 knots or less are best.
Even small vessels are capable of killing right
whales.
Sharpen
your vision to avoid a collision.
Keep a lookout while transiting the calving
area. Vessel strikes are
a leading cause of known right whale
deaths.
Right
whales need space - don't chase!
It is against Federal law to approach Right Whales within
500 yards.
